I’m using MSFS2020, and for some reason every time I load the practice flight for this lesson I get a crash to desktop. It happens on the load screen. All of the other lessons have loaded perfectly but I can’t seem to get this one to work.

I noticed this happened to me on MSFS2020 as well, but even after I moved to MSFS2024, it still crashed to desktop. I managed to get it working on MSFS2024 after rebooting my PC.

I just want to note that the written Video Review has the flaps speed reversed. It says:

1. VS0 (Stall Speed, Clean Configuration): The stall speed of the aircraft with flaps retracted.
2. VS1 (Stall Speed, Dirty Configuration): The stall speed of the aircraft with flaps extended in landing configuration.

Bu VSO is the dirty configuration, while VS1 is the clean configuration.

Unfortunately rebooting didn’t work for me. Can’t seem to be able to get into the practice flight without a CTD.

If you experience a crash to desktop (CTD), these are the first reports we are seeing of CTD’s so it would be a good idea to check the Windows event logs.

When the CTD event occours:

Press WIN+R, then type eventvwr
Go to Windows Logs > Application

Look for recent error events related to the simulator. The details often contain a failure code that can be used for further research.

I am also experiencing Crash to Desktop on Lesson 6, running MSFs2020. I tried rebooting and flying other content and other contents runs fine. Still unable to fly Lesson 6, one of my strong points flying with flaps extended.

Based on the report, the crash log suggests the CTD may relate to memory.

It would be interesting to see a memory usage (through the Task Manager’s memory graph) flight where you did not see a crash versus a flight where the sim does crash.

Another thing to try here.

Find your Community folder (the folder that Academy is installed in)

For the Windows Store install:

C:\Users\**USERNAME**\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages\Community

For the Steam install:

C:\Users\**USERNAME** \AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator\Packages\Community

**IMPORTANT!**Windows 10 by default hides the “AppData” folder, so you will have to go to “View” in the menu of File Explorer, and select “Hidden items” so as to see it.

Once you have found this folder, rename it to “Community-old” and once this is done, create a new Community folder.
Next, open Navigraph Hub and install the Academy Lessons into the newly created Community folder.

Once these steps are done, try the lesson again.

MSFS 2020 is freezing during the flight and it takes a number of cntrl/alt/delete to get out and back to the desktop.The hub shows a very poor score due to the lesson being incomplete. I made it through incipient stalls but couldn’t complete a full stall or a dive.

We are looking into this crashing issue at the moment, the issue seems to suggest memory on some computers and we are running tests right now.

I have finished the entire course with the exception of this lesson. I have tried all of the suggestions including renaming the community folder with no luck. I have the same error code listed in this thread suggesting memory.

I don’t know what it could be on my end. My system specs are:

9800x3d
RTX 5080
64GB 6000ms RAM

My system never CTDs with the exception of this lesson.

Just tried. Still getting a CTD on the load screen. It gets through the Navigraph academy screen and immediately after it shows the plane in air and gives me the option to click the Fly button, the sim crashes. Happens every time and I did not have that problem with any other lesson.

Thanks a lot for trying that, I appreciate the feedback. We are still working on replicating this issue reliably. We have diagnosed it as a memory issue for some systems however it seems restricted to MSFS2020 only. I’ve sent a reminder to our development, however.

It would also be very very handy if you could send screenshots of system configuration and the task manager memory graph when the sim is running, however

Also, yet another thing to try would be to fly in the same area in free flight mode. Same altitude, same direction of travel, same speed.

That could also really help isolate whether this is a sim issue versus an lesson issue.
