KBOS has a bunch of construction ongoing at the moment and that’s brought to light an issue with the automatic runway selection. Runway 4L is being automatically selected as the departure runway. By Massport (the airport operator) policy 4L is never used for turbojet departures (there are rich people who live off the end of the runway). Because of this the FAA SIDS do not connect to 4L. Since 4L is being selected no SID is selected when a flight plan is filed. Most pilots don’t seem to check this and then file a flight plan on online services without adding the correct SID, which is incorrect for FAA procedures.
Is there a way to block 4L from being selected as a departure runway if the aircraft type selected is a turbojet?
