Issues when loading charts on iPad app

I just got the latest version 8.42.0 for iOS. Sometimes loading charts results in the chart being stretched or compressed before it loads with proper aspect ratio. It ultimately loads correctly after several seconds, so it’s just an annoyance, but figured I’d report it.

Hello,

Thanks a lot for the report. What iPad and what version of iOS do you have installed? Also, are you using any VPN? or have specific DNS settings on your router. Also, are you seeing this with every chart? or only some charts?

Hi Gordon. iPad 10th generation (WiFi only). iPadOS 26.3.1. No VPN and no specific DNS.

To be more specific on the issue. It occurs when I have a chart already open, and then I switch to another chart (using the pinned charts at the bottom). The current chart is the one that gets stretched/compressed before the new chart loads. Once the new chart is loaded, it’s the correct aspect ratio. So, to be clear, it occurs for 3 seconds or sound during the transition from one chart to the next chart. It’s a minor issue, but not very pleasing to the eye.

I also noticed that getting a chart to memorize my zoom level takes some fiddling. I have to swap back and forth between charts a couple times before the App actually memorizes it.

Thanks,

James

Thank you very much for all the extra info.

So what it looks like is possibly device slowdown. I can reproduce this on my end, however 3 seconds is much longer than what my iPad experiences.

We will, of course, optimize the Charts app as much as possible but unfortunately, battery age/CPU throttling could have an effect like this.

Would it be possible for you to screen record the behavior?

I just timed it, and it is about 3 seconds or so. I do recognize that the older the iPad, the slower it will be. What version of iPad do you have?

As far as screen record, I don’t have any easy way to do that. I’m sure I could, but if you’ve reproduced it, is it necessary? Maybe my iPad is just a bit slower, and that’s why it’s more noticeable.

I’m using a 7th gen iPad mini. There is a very minimal (<1sec) delay between selecting the chart and it displaying. It’s very likely this is exacerbated into seconds by the device age/battery condition.

Swipe downward on the top right corner, if you don’t have a red circle with a red dot in the middle, you’ll need to add the screen record the control center. Just hold down your finger on the screen to add more control apps, that will allow you to keep screen record on that menu.

Haha! Ok, I screen-recorded, and of course, it’s now very fast. Like <1 sec. Go figure… Let’s just park this for now. I’ll deal with it. I’ll try to post the video here in a minute; need to do it from my iPad, not my PC.

Here’s the video. It’s the 3rd and 4th chart where it does the weird thing.

No worries! I’m glad loading has quickened up! whatever the reason was!
