I am not following. What happens when you switch apps? The online networks feature should turn off when you close the app completely and open it again. See this post for more details:

1 - when switching better chrome and charts on the iPad the settings reset and network options are turned off
2 - when switching better chrome and charts on the iPad the would reset the session. (Map zooms out, etc)
3 - switching better chrome and charts, charts could crash
I am not able to reproduce any of the three scenarios. Please note that when you put the app in the background (such as when switching to a web browser), the online network feature will automatically disconnect to save resources, battery, and bandwidth. This means that aircraft will disappear from the map! As soon as you reopen the app, the app will try to re-establish a connection with our servers, and then the aircraft should reappear.

This is what I would expect to happen in your case. It sounds like your experience is different! Could you provide me with a recording?
