Incorrect A/C Icon

Inibuilds A343 icon is correct on cloud charts while parked but changes to wrong profile when flying.

Showed 4-engine A343 on ground. during flight changed to 2-engine small profile such as A320. Tag still said A343

Hello! Thank you for the feedback.

I understand that this testing took place in the Charts Cloud version, not the desktop version. I’ll forward this to the team to see if it is a known issue!

Kind Regards,
Malte

Hello again!

This is not a known issue.

What online network did you use at the time? The aircraft icon is based on the aircraft type in your flightplan.

Not sure what you mean by “what type of network” unless you mean Simbrief. The connection to the network is wired ethernet. The aircraft was set in Simbrief as the G-DRYR – iniBuilds A340 Airliner Passenger. As I said, the flight began with the correct icon at the gate. Sometime during the flight I noticed it had changed to something the size of an A319 and remained that size for the remainder of the flight. I’m using MSFS 2024. The TAG associated with it still showed the correct aircraft info as an A343.

I mean online network. VATSIM or IVAO? We don’t have icons for any other traffic, and you posted in Charts > Online Networks Beta Testing , so I am assuming that you were using an online network for ATC and traffic?

Sorry, brain freeze. VATSIM. I’m starting a flight right now. The A/C icon is showing correctly at the gate. I’ll amend this thread with an update on this short flight 1.4 hours. I noticed when the A/C spawns it’s a small A319 size and changes to the correct size after about 3-4 seconds.

That is expected!

Sounds great! Please do let me know, and maybe your callsign & flighplan too if possible.

About 20 minutes into the flight the icon on the map changed back to the small size. Tried restarting the cloud application but no joy.

Alright! Could you provide the other details as well or would you like to keep that information to yourself for privacy reasons?

Too many crazy’s out there to put my callsign here. You have my email if you want to send me something I’d be glad to reply with the info. I can tell you I use Firefox so perhaps that’s a new angle to explore. Next time this happend I’ll log on with something else.

I thought the callsigns were temporary and non-personal? I might’ve been wrong!

Please press on my profile picture here in the forum and press the “Message” button, then send me a message containing the flight plan and callsign you used for this flight. We’ll try to find your flightplan!

After looking at the information received in DMs, it looks like the VATSIM data was correct during the snapshot of their data that we had from this time period.

Based on this, I can think of two possible explanations:

  • Something is going wrong when correlating your position with a VATSIM flightplan on our servers

  • The app stops receiving aircraft type data for your position

#2 could be caused by #1, but that is not necessarily the case.

Further investigation

Unfortunately, we are not able to allocate resources to investigating this issue at the moment due to the complexity involved in reproducing it. The team is currently heavily occupied with working on fixes and app-store-enforced requirements for the Charts application, and this is currently the only report we have of this issue.

That said, there is also good news! The fixes being worked on also include changes to the online traffic feature, which could impact this issue. It may already be solved in the next update! We’ll get back to this once the update has been released.

In the meantime, you can carry out a final check by yourself! The next time that you encounter this issue, try these steps:

  1. Hover the aircraft. What does the popup look like? What information does it contain? Can you see the aircraft type?

  2. Click the aircraft. What does the menu look like? Do you have the aircraft type, flightplan etc. correctly populated?

Please do let me know your findings! Apologies for the inconvenience.

Kind Regards,
Malte

Yes, both hovers show correct information. I was flying this morning and all was well until I switched focus away from charts to something else. When I came back to it the small airplane icon was there for about 2-minutes then the larger one appeared again. When it stays showing the small icon it just seems like it isn’t going to the next step where the smaller icon is replaced by the larger one.

This isn’t a show stopping event. I just wonder why all the other large aircraft on the map stay in the larger format. I’ll just wait for revisions to see if it gets resolved.

Thanks for responding and for trying to help. I appreciate it!

Ken

Hello again!

The latest update of Navigraph Charts includes improvements overall to both the map and the online traffic feature, specifically. Feel free to give it another go and see if the situation has improved!

Do note that up to 30-second delay can be expected in some cases due to technical (network) reasons.
