I would really appreciate any thoughts on what this new Navigraph user may be doing wrong.
I create a flight plan in Navigraph and export it to my local drive.
I start FS2020, choose FBW32NX as my plane
I load the flight in World Map, and the plan looks good, then start the flight, BUT
The Navigraph flight plan does not load in the MCDU. It is empty.
If I use the INIT REQ, the last Simbrief flight plan I created loads but not the Navigraph flight plan I imported in World Map.
Even if I log off Simbrief, I still see that last Simbrief flight I generated if I used INIT REQ, not the Navigraph plan I imported.
I am sure I am doing something wrong. I saw a video of doing the same with B737 and it seemed importing the FP correctly imported the entire FP. Any hints what I should do to successfully import the loaded Navigraph into FBW32NX?
INIT REQ (or its equivalent in Boeing, Bombardier, Embraer etc. aircraft) will always load flight plans from Simbrief, never from Charts. That’s in all aircraft with Simbrief integration, not just the FBW A32NX.
I don’t think there is any aircraft that can import a flight plan from Navigraph Charts directly.
There is an indirect way, however: you may export a flight plan file from the Navigraph Charts application and use that to load e.g. a “company route” in some aircraft addons that do support that sort of thing.
For example:
In the case of the A32NX, the file format expected by the aircraft “XML Datafile” can be exported using Navigraph Charts:
…but, somewhat “ironically”, only on flights that were imported from a Simbrief flight to begin with.
Some other addons do have simpler/different company route file formats which Navigraph Charts can export from any flight even if it did not originate from Simbrief (for example, PMDG addons).
Thank you very much Tim for your kind reply. The only reason I spent hours trying to do this was the video below that shows a FP created by Navigraph then fully loaded into FBW32NX MCDU. I am sure there is much I still need to learn, but I am wondering if you can replicate that in your system. If there is no way, then clearly that door is shut for what I thought was possible. Thanks again.
I have gone through all these steps and got the same result as you. The flightplan was correctly imported and shown in the world map, but when the flight started, the MCDU was empty. The Navigraph in-game panel correctly picked up the imported route.
I then went back to the world map, loaded the same flight plan again, and triggered a re-calculation of the route by simply opening the departure selector and selecting the same procedure already highlighted from the import. Upon loading into the flight, the MCDU was partially populated - only missing the selected procedures.
I am not sure what is happening here. The Navigraph Charts In-Game panel is correctly picking up the loaded route regardless of how I import it in the world map, but the FBW A320 seems to be more picky for reasons that only the developers behind the aircraft would know.
We’ll reach out to FBW for some clarification on this! I’ll get back to you
I have talked to FlyByWire, and they have been able to reproduce the issue. They also confirm that this is not a Navigraph compatibility issue, and they recommend that you reach out on their Discord server instead if you feel comfortable with that.
These guys are great, I’m sure they’ll be able to track your issue down! Just keep in mind that their efforts are voluntary, so it may take some time for them to get the time/resources available to look further into this.
Thank you for reaching out! Let’s hope that this is resolved in the end. Please feel free to let us know when that happens!
Thank you Malte for your investigation and detailed reply. I don’t know how the pilot in the YouTube video was able to so seamless import the FP, but it sure looks nice :). I will follow up with the Discord server to see if there is anything else that could be tried. Again, I appreciate the time and investigation.
Cheers,
Sia
That video was recorded looong ago, with an old version of the simulator and an old version of the FBW A320. A lot has changed since then, and it’s possible that not all changes were intentional!
