How to Stop MD11 from Hanging Navigraph Hub (Solution)

Hi all. A bunch of locked threads in here about the hub hanging when updating the MD11. I’ve found a way that works reliably for me to update it without a hang, and it doesn’t take very long either.

After you install or update the plane, you must first run MSFS and start a flight with the plane. Once it’s fully loaded, quit MSFS and update the AIRAC data. If you try to update right after the install without first loading the plane in the sim, it will hang (my record is 32 hours, so I think it’s a genuine hang, not a “lots of files” thing  ).

Hope that’s helpful.

Thanks for that “solution” but it’s indeed the amount of files in combination with your hardware (specially hard drive and using controller).

We are speaking here from over 100k very small files, which uses a lot of time to decompress and copy it to the correct location.

You can simple test it by your own:
Copy the MD11 folder to any other location (this is one step in the hub). You will see it’s veeeeery slow.

Anyways, thanks for sharing your way
Richard

PS: we have spoken with TFDi on the FSExpo and they are looking for a solution to limited the amount of files somewhere

Yeah, I know it’s a ridiculous number of files. However, I’ve done a bunch of testing and, if I load the plane first, the AIRAC update completes within about 5 minutes whereas if I do not load the plane first, the AIRAC update does not complete even after 32 hours on a 600mb connection with all SSD drives. That’s not to say it wouldn’t eventually complete but, honestly, I suspect even with >100k files, 32 hours is an absurd amount of time. There appears to be some sort of nav database initialization that happens on the plane’s first load that makes it get along much better with the Hub.

It should be noted that if I don’t load the plane first, then try to update via the Hub, and then close the hub, load the plane, and try to update, it still doesn’t work. You have to load the plane on a fresh install / update - otherwise, you need to uninstall the plane, then reinstall it and follow the above.

Figured I’d post this since they just updated the plane without fixing this problem, which means you guys are about to get inundated with questions about it.
