HJJJ / HSSJ Juba is not available as departure airport in XP12

Hi

I’m using Navigraph with ARINC cycle 2510 in X-Plane 12.2.1.

I planned a flight from HJJJ / JUB to HSSK / KRT but unfortunately I cannot select HJJJ as departure airport in the flight setup dialogue.

I checked the navigation database and the airport is available in Global Scenery/Global Airports/Earth nav data/apt.dat:

1 1513 0 0 HSSJ Juba
1302 city Juba
1302 country SSD South Sudan
1302 datum_lat 4.871994444
1302 datum_lon 31.601138889
1302 gui_label 3D
1302 gw_credits ISOC, Jasim1234, juanjo463, Julian Lockwood, Mujtaba Elhaj
1302 iata_code JUB
1302 icao_code HJJJ
1302 region_code HS
1302 state Central Equatoria State
1302 transition_alt 7000
1302 transition_level 8000
100 50.00 1 1 0.30 1 2 0 13 4.8831525 31.5879743 0 50 2 4 1 1 31 4.8649534 31.6094434 8 50 2 3 1 1
...

Searchng with either IATA or ICAO code, country, name does not find this airport. Why? Any idea?
The ICAO code changed a few years ago from HSSJ to HJJJ, could that be a problem?

Hi,
Yes, that is the issue. The ICAO code in XP12 is outdated. Please report this to Laminar Research. That is something we cannot change.

Thank you very much, and by the way, perfect issue report! Good stuff …

Cheers
Richard

Hi Richard

Thanks for the quick reply! I filed a bug reports in the XP Gateway about this issue.
Hope it will be fixed asap…

And thank you for the compliment - as software developer you know how to report issues, at least you know what you would expect.

Joël

I actually believe this may be a different issue.

Some time ago (during the XP11 run), X-Plane decoupled the internal airport identifier from the ICAO code, which is the case here:

1 1513 0 0 HSSJ Juba
1302 city Juba
1302 country SSD South Sudan
1302 datum_lat 4.871994444
1302 datum_lon 31.601138889
1302 gui_label 3D
1302 gw_credits ISOC, Jasim1234, juanjo463, Julian Lockwood, Mujtaba Elhaj
1302 iata_code JUB
1302 icao_code HJJJ

Above, you can see the ICAO code has already been updated.

As per the gateway:

…an update with the new ICAO code was submitted on 17 June 2021, a version of said update was approved on 26 July 2021, and a further update was approved 29 August 2021 and released with all versions of X-Plane 12 since 12.00.

This is similar to e.g. Kuwait International:

1 204 0 0 OKBK Kuwait Intl
1302 city Kuwait City
1302 country KWT
1302 datum_lat 29.226766667
1302 datum_lon 47.979952778
1302 gui_label 2D
1302 gw_credits HAYRİ BÜBERCİ, Mariano Longo, Robert Grant
1302 iata_code KWI
1302 icao_code OKKK

In the X-Plane 12 demo (albeit a slightly outdated version 12.1.4) I am able to select Kuwait International by using any of OKBK, OKKK, KWI or Kuwait in the Flight Configuration > Location text input field.

On the other hand, using the same demo, I cannot find Juba using any of HSSJ, HJJJ, JUB or Juba. So I somehow suspect a simulator bug unrelated to the ICAO code change (which is, somewhat counter-intuitively, actually up-to-date in the default scenery).

Regards,

Tim
