Has Anyone Else Found a Better Way to Visualize the Radius Map Tool on Navigraph?

Hey everyone, I’ve been using Navigraph for a while now, especially the radius map tool, and I’ve found it to be really helpful during my flights. But there’s something that’s been on my mind, and I’m curious if anyone else has noticed this or feels the same way.

So, here’s the deal: I often fly in and out of airports that are close to restricted or high-traffic areas, so I need to be pretty aware of these zones. The radius map tool is great because it shows me a circle around my location based on a chosen distance. But I feel like it could offer a little more precision in how it displays the surrounding airspace.

For instance, when I use the tool, it gives me that general radius, which is good, but I feel like there’s room for more detail. Maybe adding more obvious markers or different shading for restricted or high-traffic zones that fall within the radius could make a difference. Right now, I find myself having to zoom in and out or use other tools to make sure I’m steering clear of these areas. Is it just me, or would anyone else benefit from having these zones better highlighted directly on the radius map?

One other thing I’ve been thinking about is how this tool relies on my device’s GPS location. It’s super useful when I’m on the go and trying to quickly figure out where I am. But I’ve noticed that sometimes the radius can shift or move slightly, which I guess is normal with GPS reliance, but it’d be nice if there was a way to lock onto my location a bit more securely—especially when I’m mid-flight and don’t want to be distracted by minor shifts. Has anyone else run into this, or is it just something I’m noticing?

Now, don’t get me wrong, I’ve been inspired by how well the radius map tool works overall. Essentially, it allows users to draw circles on interactive maps online based on a set radius from a specific location. It’s simple, effective, and generally does what it’s supposed to. This tool provides a quick visual representation of the distance around your current position, which is particularly helpful during flight planning when you need to assess areas within a certain range. It’s definitely made flight planning easier for me on a number of occasions, and I wouldn’t want to fly without it. But I’m also curious if others have felt like there could be a small improvement in how the data is visualized, or if there are any tips or tricks I’m missing to make the most out of it.

Another thought I had was about adding more dynamic layers to the radius. Maybe if the radius could change colors depending on the type of airspace or hazard it includes, that would be really helpful. Like, if I’m flying near a restricted area or a high-traffic zone, maybe that portion of the circle could turn red or something. It would make it much easier to navigate without constantly flipping between tools or zooming in and out. I think this could save a lot of time and make the flight experience a bit smoother. Just a thought!

I know there are tons of features in Navigraph that people really appreciate, and the radius map tool is definitely one of the big ones for me. But I wanted to hear from others who regularly use it—has anyone found any creative ways to make the radius tool work better for them? Maybe I’m not using it to its full potential, or maybe there are some techniques out there that I haven’t figured out yet.

Any tips or ideas would be awesome! I’d love to hear from people who have more experience with it and see if there are any little adjustments or features I’m overlooking. Looking forward to your thoughts!

Hi…,

Welcome.

You have posted in the Navigraph Hub category, which is used to update the Navigation Data on MSFS and MSFS Addons. Did you mean Navigraph Charts?

Also you mention “using Navigraph for a while now, especially the radius map tool”. Can you please post a screenshot of this functionality using Guide to posting Screenshots

Cheers
Ian
