Going Crazy Trying to Crib Helicopter Profies for CH-47 and UH-60

I’ve been trying to make somewhat reasonable aircraft profiles for these “big” helicopters that are powered by turbine engines. I know I can start with an existing type and I used the DHC-6 to “crib” a profile for the CH-47D. I asked about this a year ago Profile for Boeing CH-47 Chinook - SimBrief / Aircraft Profiles - Navigraph and gave up trying to get the “fuel burn offset” to make sense.

I decided to try again and I am still going crazy. I can change the “adjustment” from P00 to P30 for example, but regenerating the flight plan produces no change! So I’ve been trying to create a new flight plan and then generate it to see the fuel burn. Even then sometimes a a change to the “P” offset has no effect, and sometimes it changes without changing the “P” offset. I now have a long list of newly created identical flight plans ha ha and I don’t know how to clean that up! Is it possible that I need to wait a certain amount of time before the “P” change takes effect??? If so how long?

Boy would it be great if you gave us a tool to create profiles and save them for the community!! Look at the gigantic list of requests in the Aircraft Profiles section!!! In Foreflight we just make them ourselves.

Update: I found the Calculate & Compare feature. This makes is a lot more efficient to play with the “P” factors to get fuel burn for the cribbed aircraft types. I believe that I was trying to see the effects in a generated flight plan and those changes weren’t being reflected. However you can make a “P” change and see the effect in Calculate & Compare right away.

I still would love to see a real app to create new aircraft profiles so that we don’t have to find an existing one that has “about” the right KIAS cruise and altitude limits then crib the fuel burn.

Hi Bob,

It seems your issue is resolved. If you have a wishlist item, please create and vote for it at Feature Requests - Navigraph

Cheers

Hello Ian –

Not quite. It is extremely clunky to create aircraft profiles, and some of the data is wrong because it is based on au unrelated aircraft. I fly “heavy” helicopters (Chinook and Blackhawk) and trying to get the details by copying some fixed-wing aircraft and then tweaking with “P” options is not a good experience.

My suggestion is to provide a tool with which users can create complete aircraft profiles from the manufacturer’s performance data. This would turn your Aircraft Profiles section into a crowdsourcing/sharing service.
