FMS Data SLOW downloads Windows 11 #2

This is a continuation of an earlier topic with the same title.

The response that I received on that occasion blamed my ISP and so called routing. Well neither suggestion is true and if routing does have something to do with the issue then it is by design. It has NOTHING to do with my location, my ISP or my computer. In fact I am now on a different continent to when I first reported this issue and connecting on a completely different ISP. I am also on a completely different computer with a different OS.

Furthermore I am using a completely different internet provider. All that suggests that the problem of slow downloads is integral within the FMS Data Manager. I am attempting to download data right now with the the Data Manager and after nearly 5 hours the data download for Active Sky (27Mb) has still not completed. I can download 10Mb files in less than 2 minutes under normal circumstances so there is undoubtedly something wrong with the Data Manager.
Please fix it.

Thanks

Hi,
But I hope you know that no one can influence routing, so all you can do is distribute the files across data centers worldwide (e.g., AWS, Azure).

Further, when there is an issue, you can be sure that you will not be alone. You see posts immediately when a service is down, slow, or unreachable.

But it must not be the connection, it could also be an anti-virus program, Windows Defender, or any other program that checks/block the files.

Third, it depends on your system, your hard drive, your I/O, and so on.

What I want to say is that this can be more than just one application or only the internet connection.

Again, when we have an issue, you would see many, many more reports here in the forum and in our ticket system - but there are zero reports.

Check not only your ISP/internet connection. Check if anything blocks the FMS Data Manager, downloads, and/or unzipping. Further, please send us the latest log file so we can see whether this is really a download issue.

Thank you very much
Richard

PS: the first posting was also only from you. No confirmation from any other user.

I would have to be extremely unlucky if by moving from the Far East to the UK and buying a new computer with everything that is attached to it. And get the same problem even though my internet provider is a completely differently company.

I have NO idea how to check if the FMS manager is being blocked.

If data is being zipped or unzipped, it is happening within the Data Manager or the files that it is tasked to download.

How do I attach the log file?

That should NOT mean that my problem is not a serious one.

Mike

You will find the log files here:
C:\ProgramData\Navigraph\FMSClient\logs

Copy & paste this line into Windows Explorer, then upload all logs here, please.

Thank you,
Richard

Hi,
Thank you very much. Now it is clear, even when you don´t believe it:

From your logs… look at the timestamps from the CHttpDownloadWorker. The first two lines are normal, and then you see a 6-minute delay on every line - looks very strange and not normal. Possible a DNS issue, possible an ISP issue, possible that the IP is blocked from the ISP and/or will be checked somewhere, I don´t know. But it´s a clear sign that something happens when the FMS Data Manager tries to access the next download package:

As a first test, reboot your router, then your PC, check your DNS settings, and, lastly, contact your ISP if none of these resolve your issue. It is not an FMS Data Manager issue because it takes a long time, yes, but it works … the core issue is the delay on your internet side.

Here for a comparison of how it should look - you see, there are only a few seconds between each package:

It has suddenly started to work! ?
Not that I think it relevant, but all I have done is to re-boot and relocate my WiFi dongle.
Immediately before it started doing the right thing I had red error messages on two of the data items. Once these were cleared, again, I don’t know how, downloads started coming in at a decent rate. The log file also appears good.

Hi,
Thank you very much for your feedback. Good, when it is solved. In most cases, it is an internal router problem.

So, disconnect/reboot such systems is the first and fastest try. The second one (ISP issue) is the harder one …

Anyway, thanks again, and have a nice day
Richard
