Flight Planning - Initial Altitude

Hi,

First and foremost, thank you for all your hard work in making Simbrief the go-to flight planning software tool! I always look forward to the features, current and upcoming.

With that said, I would like for someone to review a flight plan route. I’m currently doing a flight from KATL (ATLANTA) - LPMA (MADEIRA) using the inibuilds A359. When planning the route, using the KATL-GAIRY2.IRQ (SID.TRANS.), simbrief is planning an initial cruise altitude of 17,000ft. until practically coasting out to go oceanic.

Flt plan routing is as follows:

KATL/27R N0438F170 GAIRY2 IRQ V56 SAMMI T404 STEET V56 FLO V139 ILM/M085F370 DCT 36N070W/M085F390 37N060W 37N050W 37N040W/M085F410 36N030W 34N020W DCT IRKID DCT IBBAN IBBAN1P LPMA/05

Once final pre-flight weights and numbers are verified and entered into the perf tab in the A359 FMS, in most cases, OPT ALT is at least FL370.

Thank you for your attention to this matter!

The airways used in the route (V56, two instances, T404, one instance, V139, one instance) are low-level airways typically restricted to below FL180, hence the low initial altitude. Replacing them with directs would work around the limitation.

I’ve removed that route from the database and there is now a slightly more direct route from KATL to LPMA which is not restricted by low-level airways.

Regards,

Tim

Hi,

Tim, thanks for looking into the matter. I’ll give it a look to see how it populates. Typically, the other work around was to just request a higher altitude with sayintentions.ai atc software. I know there are some real-world cases where I’ve been planned at lower altitudes for a myriad of reasons and have to request a new cruise alt.

Either way, thanks again for taking a look into this.
