Hi everyone,
I fly a lot of classic aircraft in the sim — steam-gauge cockpits from the 70s and 80s that rely heavily on VOR and NDB navigation. With real-world navaids being decommissioned more and more, current nav data sets naturally don’t reflect what these aircraft would have used back in their heyday.
Idea: Would it be possible for Navigraph to offer historical navigation data packages alongside the current ones — e.g. one set representative of the 1960s, one for the 1970s, one for the 1980s and so on? This would let us fly these older aircraft with period-accurate VORs, NDBs, and approach procedures, basically a “time travel” option for classic aircraft fans.
Curious what others think:
- Would you use something like this?
- Are there other decades/eras you’d want covered?
- Does anyone know if old navaid databases from these eras are even preserved/available anywhere?
Would love to hear if this resonates with other classic-aircraft flyers here, and of course any thoughts from the Navigraph team on feasibility.
Thanks!
