Export GPS co-ordinates differ from Skyvector/Felis EFB data

X Plane Org forum post by me

Below screen shots have same GPS as each other but NOT your exported data to xplane FMS file which I’m am pasting here:

Hi,
Please, can you show me which waypoint is wrong?

Checked only these two waypoints, and both are exactly the same as in your other apps:

STARF =  -9.126561 / 146.725297 =>  - 9° 7.59366' / 146° 43.51782'
IDINA = -4.262222 / 140.566111 => - 4° 15.73332' / 140° 33.96666'

Sorry, I can´t see any difference here.

Cheers,
Richard

these are from your fms file

ALL are different to the skvector and felis efb data above.

you say 7428

both others say 7257 thats obvious right? ALL are different

remember Im talking about the EXPORTED fms file saved for xplane flight plan. SO checking what you get online from your data is no use. Check the file i posted above FROM NG export.

could you explain how the left equals the right in any way shape or form? Im not missing the obvious here?

Does this raw fms data need to run through some kind of converter to get the obviously different numbers to be correct LAT/LON?

It is the conversion from decimal degrees into degrees decimal minutes. The flightplan contains decimal degrees, Skyvector, and your other tool degrees decimal minutes.

Two different formats …

Richard

ok that explains how the EFB took your FMS plan and ‘fixed it’ to be ok to input.

The final question ( as this is all new to me and no mention in any of the manuals iw as using before…)

WITHOUT using SV or the Felis EFB app…from navigraph charts HOW do I get the FINAL usable minutes exported out in a usable format? I dont use simbrief which the tutorial says it got its figures from.

someone asked this before:

but the answer just said there was a difference not HOW to get the usable data.

if I have to convert every single waypoint using

then I give up. Must be a way to get the needed data exported from NG right? The data I need to input manually into CIVA for example or LTN92

well i COULD just use the Felis EFB as that works - was trying get direct is all.

You have not posted a SOLUTION yet just the REASON why the data is different, AA solution would tell me how to get the converted usable data our of NG..

please?

In your initial report (at least I have understood it in that way, also from the X-Plane forum), you wrote that the coordinates are different, and that is not the case - it is the coordinate format that is different, and therefore the solution.

To your follow-up question:
We have no exporter into your Felis EFB. So when Felis only accept waypoints in DDM format, you must convert them manually.

The X-Plane flight plan format expects the DD format.

Richard

ok thanks. I will put the question in another way.

(the Felis DOES convert for you)

HOW do I export NG data in the same way SkyVector does it?

IF I am doing this all manually why would i keep using NG and a converter when SV gives me the usable format all ready to go?

I export waypoints to clipboard and use notepad to print BEFORE…now I am using GPS how do i export LAT/LON into a text file from NG?

Hi, if you export the “FS2004” format and open it in a text editor, you will see coordinates in degrees decimal minutes. I think this is the only format that offers this however, all of the other formats use decimal degrees.

Try downloading the FS2004 format and let us know if it works for you:

Best regards,

Hey thanks!

Now THAT is a solution. Tested it and works fine. Please dont delete that export format!

In fact, if you feel like adding a new export format to a plain txt file, using same procedure exactly and naming it something like “CIVA FORMAT” I and a few others would not complain!

I mean, that’s exactly what it does anyway, it would encourage others to experiment with CIVA when an export is ready to go!

The best part is that the co-ordinates are separated and easier to read than single long strings of digits.

Thanks again

Perfect support.

SOLVED
