ETOPS Threshold Distance

Currently the ETOPS 60 min threshold distance appears to be fixed. However IRL this can vary depending company policy per aircraft type. Please consider adding user-defined distance value. Thanks.

It’s already settable:

That being said it’s mandated by regulations rather than company policy (threshold is higher for aircraft with 3 or more engines as well as aircraft with 19 seats or less). But for a twin-engined jet with more than 19 passenger seats, all regulations I know of mandate a 60-minute threshold.

Tim

Oh, I think I see what you mean, for a given 60-minute duration, the distance can vary a bit based on various factors. That is indeed not currently user-settable, although Derek can probably explain how it is computed by the algorithm at least.

any comment on this?

Hi, I have moved this to the Feature Requests forum. Please consider voting for it!

Best regards,

then it has no chances I’m afraid

Working for an IRL B737 operator who is not ETOPS approved (yet) It would be good if the target scenario could be set to 0 minutes. This would allow the plotting of 60 minute range rings to know you are compliant to your diversionary airport over airspace that is used for ETOPS/EDTO operations. Again it would also be good to be able to state a distance for the 60 minute diversion - our ‘company’ diversionary range within 60 minutes is 419NM this is due to differnt performance charateristics between a 737 NG and MAX. Further, the ability to plot on overwater segments that are not ETOPS/EDTO routes and just adding alternates without entry and exit points would also mimic real world flight planning scenarios.

I completely agree with this!
I would love to be able to add critical fuel scenario calculations for non-ETOPS flights in order to get ETPs between my adequate airports. It’s technically possible to do now, but it requires the use of the ETOPS function which gets quite messy, especially in the OFP. A “simplified” CFS system for non-ETOPS segments would be great. It also would allow the user to quickly check compliance with EASA CAT.OP.MPA.181 (6) [Additional Fuel].
