For many years we, as PLvACC (VATSIM vACC), have been observing a lot of incorrect runway assignments for departure or arrival on EPWA/WAW on SimBrief and VATSIM, e.g. departures from RWY11 with wind 120/6 kts or arrivals on RWY29 with wind 260/3 kts. We’ve tried to do some marketing about correct runway configurations for EPWA, but without any major success, so I thought that maybe you, Simbrief, can improve it, as maaany pilots that choose this incorrect runways have “RMK/TCAS SIMBRIEF”.
On EPWA there is runway preferential system that is based on noise abatement procedures. Below you can check real AIP description of it.
Real-life EPWA RWY configurations:
- DEP 29/ARR 33 is used anytime below 5 kts
- DEP 15/ARR 11 or DEP 29/ARR 33 is used based on wind direction between 5-20 kts
- any single RWY config depending on wind direction above 20 kts.
You can make a double-check on FlightRadar24 as well how it works. RWY33 and RWY11 are equiped with ILS, so it’s preffered to use them as arrival runways. ILS CAT IIIa (RWY33) and ILS CAT II (RWY11).
It would be a great news if implementation of it is possible for SimBrief. Many pilots arguments that they’ve chosen arrival on 29, “beacause SimBrief told them to do so”.
