ENGM RWY and FL assignment

Hi,

From a VATSIM controller with primary focus on ENGM. I have noticed SimBrief assigning some odd runways out of ENGM, and if possible I’d like to propose the following “runway logic” based on SID, weather conditions, and time of day.

ENGM uses three main runway modes:

  • Mixed Parallel Operations (MPO): “default” runway configuration. Both runways are used for both departures and arrivals. Runway is mostly assigned based on which SID is closer (or based on parking) with some exceptions listed below.
  • Segregated Parallel Operations (SPO): preferred with ceiling lower than 2000ft at any time, and required for noise abatement between 22:30 and 00:00 local time. All departures are from the “left” runway (01L/19L) and arrivals land on the “right” (01R/19R). During night operations, all twin-engine props are given the western runway (01L/19R) but I’m not sure SimBrief can make this distinction.
  • Single Runway Operations (SRO): required for noise abatement between 00:00 and 06:30 local time. The western runway (01L/19R) is used for all operations.

Most of the time, ENGM operates using MPO with both runways used for both departures and arrivals. All SIDs are mostly runway-independent, with some exceptions:

  • During 01 operations, 01L is preferred for aircraft on ATLAP and EVTOG SID
  • During 19 operations, 19L is preferred for aircraft on MASEV and OKSAT SID

My second “issue” concerns flight levels to ENVA and north of ENVA. AIP ENR 3.3 2 specifies that all flights on FRA route RIBBE DCT GIGNI file an ODD flight level. The airways connecting these points are defined as ODD, but last year the upper limit of these were lowered to FL135. Most aircraft now file DCT, and since the route to ENVA specifically is slightly westbound, SimBrief “incorrectly” defaults to EVEN levels. The same applies in the opposite direction, flights on FRA route ABUNO DCT INREX shall file EVEN levels. After some reading on this forum it seems “forcing” an odd/even flight level on certain routes is not possible at the moment, but I thought I’d highlight the issue nonetheless.

I’ve added the time-specific runway logic. Weather-specific and SID-specific logic is not currently possible.

I have also corrected the RIBBE DCT GIGNI (odd) and ABUNO DCT INREX (even) levels.

Just for my own curiosity, are waypoint pairs/segments the only possibility for you to “force” odd/even levels?

The most common route for ENVA to ENGM is UTUNA DCT TUTBI DCT BELGU. I’m guessing it’s just slightly eastbound as odd levels are usually generated. As far as I’m aware, even levels are preferred for this city pair in real life as well, but I understand if it’s not currently possible to implement those kinds of specific restrictions in SimBrief. :slight_smile:

Hi, yes we can only force by segment.

Even in real-world flight plans, the even/odd choice between UTUNA/TUTBI/BELGU is not 100% consistent. But it seems other city pairs also use even levels for these segments (ex. ENVA-EDDF), so I think we can simply update these segments to even as well.
