AIRAC cycle 2312 rev 1 for Captain Sim is bad

I primarily fly the Captain Sim 767 II in Prepar3D v4.5. I noticed in the past month of December, many of my departure and arrival airports the runway headings were off by as much as 25 degrees resulting in inaccurate rendering of the runway in the EHSI as well as bad FRONT CRS heading in the FMC when shooting ILS approaches. In turn, this leads to bad instrumentation and situational awareness issues in the cockpit while flying on VATSIM.

After much of my own troubleshooting, I isolated the problem down to the file Runways.db which the FMS Data Manager provides for Captain Sim products. Using a file comparison tool, I found massive differences across many airports in terms of runway headings. I’ll name a few here: CYYR, CYGR, KPWM, KSAN.

Once I discovered this, I was able to use the FMS Data Manager tool to revert to the prior AIRAC cycle 2311 rev 1 and all the problems went away.

You can see my full report of the issue with screenshots of what I’m referring to here:

Hi Jason,
thanks for the report - thos should be fixed with the upcoming cycle 2313 today. There was no report here in our forum, therefore we hadn’t any chance to build a second revision of cycle 2312.

Please let us know, if 2313 hss fixed the issue for you.

Cheers
Richard

Enjoy and HAPPY NEW YEAR :fireworks:

Richard,

I’m sorry to report AIRAC 2313 is no good. It has the same problems 2312 had. Most of the airports runway headings are off by around 20 degrees in the Runways.db file. AIRAC 2311 was the last known good version. I need to revert back to it.

Hi Jason,
thanks for the report - let me check it …

Cheers,
Richard

Here’s an example using KSAN. According to charts, KSAN runway 09 heading is 95 degrees. However, there is some kind of offset in P3Dv4.5 which yield the following results:

AIRAC 2311 This KSAN runway heading is good:
KSAN;3.10;111.55;32.736364;09401;-117.201231;09;106.0

AIRAC 2312 This KSAN runway heading is bad:
KSAN;3.10;111.55;32.736364;09401;-117.201231;09;095.0

AIRAC 2313 This KSAN runway heading is bad:
KSAN;3.10;111.55;32.736364;09401;-117.201231;09;095.0

I should have noted the above lines are from the Runways.db file.

Hi again Jason,
issue identified sorry, was my fault. I have changed true with mag headings in the CS and therefore the offset. 106° are the true heading, 95 the mag heading … I´m currently building a second revision and will upload it as soon as possible. Sorry Jason for the additional testing-effort on your side …

I will keep you informed here, when the files are released … sorry again!

Cheers,
Richard

Richard,

Wonderful. Just happy to help you and the flight sim community. Not a problem. Thanks for tackling this so quickly. I’m in a 3 hour flight now so won’t be able to test the new one for a few hours in the sim but I’ll be able to crack open the Runways.db file and that should tell me ahead of time.

Good evening,

I’ve looked at a few airports (KSAN and CYYR) and the issues appears to be resolved in AIRAC 2313 rev 2.

Thank you,
Jas
