Night Mode Readability Issues in VFR/IFR Charts

Hi Navigraph Team,

First of all, thank you for continuously improving Navigraph — it’s an essential tool for both real-world training and simulation. I’d like to share some honest feedback regarding the current Night Mode implementation in the chart view, as I believe there is significant room for improvement.

In its current state, the Night Mode color scheme makes it genuinely difficult to use the charts for practical VFR or IFR navigation, specifically:

Waypoints and fixes are nearly impossible to spot at a glance. The contrast between waypoint symbols and the dark background is insufficient, especially when scanning quickly during flight.

White labels (e.g., for towns, mandatory reporting points, and fixes) tend to blur into each other on a dark background, reducing legibility rather than improving it.

Town and settlement markers appear in a dark brownish tone, which almost disappears against the night background — they need a much higher contrast color.

Place name labels use a muddy, muted yellow that feels visually inconsistent and is harder to read than it should be. A lighter, cleaner color such as soft light blue would provide far better contrast and a more polished look.

Overall, the color harmony is lacking. The combination of dark brown, muted yellow, and white on a dark background does not form a coherent, readable palette the way the Day Mode does.

The Day Mode, by comparison, is excellent — clean, well-contrasted, and easy to navigate at a glance. Night Mode should ideally offer the same level of readability, just optimized for low-light environments.

A few suggestions: brighter, higher-contrast colors for waypoints and fixes (e.g., a crisp cyan or light yellow); replacing the dark brown for settlements with a clearly visible, lighter tone; soft light blue for place name labels instead of the current muted yellow; a general review of the Night Mode palette for consistency and contrast ratios across all chart elements; and ideally the option for users to customize Night Mode contrast or brightness as an interim solution.

I train for my PPL(A) and regularly fly IFR procedures both in real life and in simulation, and I’d love to be able to rely on Night Mode just as comfortably as Day Mode. I believe many users in both communities share this frustration.

Thanks for considering this feedback — keep up the great work!
