I am trying to plan a route using lat/long coords. I am at a loss to understand why the coord I am entering is being located away from its true position. See screenshot
Hi…,
Can you please be clearer about “why the coord I am entering is being located away from its true position.”
Cheers
Ian
Ian,
As can be seen from the screen shot, I have located the waypoint on a longitude of circa 2 Degrees west and Simbrief had located it on a longitude of between 3.4 and 3.6 degrees west.

Hi John,
I don´t understand your issue either… 0289W = 3.473W … so the position is absolutely correct.
02 = degrees
89 = minutes
from DegreesMinutes → decimal degrees
02 * 3600 = 7200 seconds
89 * 60 = 5430 seconds
Total = 7200 + 5430 = 12540 seconds
… and now back to decimal degrees:
12540 seconds / 3600 = 3.483° WEST
Cheers,
Richard
Richard,
Humble pie time!
It appears I have entered the data incorrectly. 54°01’17"N 002°53’48"W is what I wanted to convert. This should have been 540117N0025348W. I am assuming that the XX part of the following, 002XX should not normally exceed 59’ minutes. Simbrief was more alert than me! Sorry to bother you. Thanks for the prompt attention.
Regards
John
