I am experiencing a recurring issue with Navigraph Charts on an iPhone 16 Pro.
Version
• Navigraph Charts iOS 8.44.0
• Build 5103475a1
Issue
The map occasionally gets stuck on an infinite loading spinner and never renders.
Airport charts, procedures, and Simlink data continue to work normally, but the map itself remains blank with the loading spinner.
What works
• Airport charts
• STARs/SIDs/Approaches
• Simlink connectivity
• Aircraft position updates
• Charts Web on the same iPhone
Troubleshooting already performed
• Logged out and back in
• Deleted and reinstalled the app
• Restarted the iPhone
• Private Relay disabled
• Tested on both WiFi and 5G/mobile data
Additional observations
Charts Web works perfectly on the same iPhone and network connection, so this does not appear to be an account or connectivity issue.
Interestingly, after one reinstall the problem was still present. Later the map started working again after reopening the app, but the issue eventually returned. The behavior seems intermittent.
Has anyone else experienced this on an iPhone 16 Pro or with Charts 8.44.0?
iOS 27 (but I was already having the issue under iOS 26)
returning to the app after it’s been in the background for a while
Simlink is not running (my sim computer where Simlink is installed is powered off, FWIW)
it happens with all map layers, changing the map layer has no effect
on a relaunch after force closing, the map loads fine (and tends to keep working for a while before it breaks again)
Regards,
Tim
P.S. the following seem possibly related:
(I first noticed the issue shortly before reading the above report in January and back then - that is, until I read said topic - thought it may have just been on my end)
P.S. 2. sometimes I get just the route, like I got here going back to the app after writing most of this post:
I’m running iOS 27.0.1, but the issue was already present on iOS 26 as well.
The loading spinner can appear both on a fresh launch of the app and when returning to the app after it has been running for some time in the background.
The issue occurs both with Simlink connected and with Simlink completely disconnected, so it does not appear to be related to Simlink.
I most commonly use the IFR High layer, but I also use the World Map layer. The problem occurs on all layers I have tested and also when all map layers are disabled.
When the map hangs and I force close the Charts app, the behavior is inconsistent. Sometimes the map loads normally after reopening the app, and sometimes it does not. When it does load successfully, it may work for a period of time before the loading spinner returns again.
Hi,
Thanks for looking into this.
Could you clarify what you mean by “extra tracking”? Is this something you can enable on your side, or is there anything I need to do, such as installing a test build or providing logs?
Thanks,
Stefan
I’m quite busy these past few days, but I tried switching to the app on my phone a few times today, and did not experience the issue at all (unlike Friday). I didn’t have time to do much with the app TBH.
We have identified the issue and have fixed it, however that fix will be a part of the next Charts app release. I’m unsure when exactly will be but asap.
The Apple iPhone app was brilliant - in recent days it’s become difficult to use at all… two screenshots show the issues - both intermittent but frequent - dark unreadable chat display and an odd formatting issue which men’s accessing flight details impossible. Both issues require restarting app.
