FBW A380 Fuel calculation

Hi,

I´ve just completed my flight with FBW A380 from OMDB to KIAH. Calculated ramp fuel was 208.1 t with planned fuel reserves of 10.9 t but I arrived with 27.4 t. This caused significantly reduced payload beeing loaded from OMDB due to reaching MTOW which is not possible as the flight is normaly operated IRL with almost full capacity. Is there any chance to check and update FBW A380 fuel consumption profile for planning purposes? That would really help. It is not just this case but almost every flight ends up with signficantly higher arrival fuel than planned.

The FBW A380 is based on some reference airframe for which they were able to get some information, and has an MTOW of 510 tons only, whereas some A380s (including, most likely, the variants used on such ultra-long routes) can go up to 575 tons. That’s the real reason for the reduced payload.

I agree with Vatnsfjord here, remaining fuel at destination as planned by Simbrief would likely have been 20 tons or thereabouts. 10.9 tons looks about right for final reserve and alternate, but a 5% contingency for such a long flight would likely be over 9 tons on top of that.

That’s still a 7-ton difference though.

Simbrief’s calculated fuel burn is based on real-world data (whenever available somehow) for the aircraft type, rather than any particular add-on’s performance (but the ability to provide a fuel factor does allow to adjust the burn to more closely match addons).

As far as I know, the built-in custom airframe for the FBW is maintained by FlyByWire themselves:

So they would be the ones to add a fuel factor to more closely match their addon’s performance.

In the meantime, you can create your own airframe (using the FBW airframe as a base) and adjust the fuel factor to closer match what you get in your simulator.

Based on some quick testing with the OMDB KIAH route, I would suggest M04 or perhaps M03 as a starting point:
