Enter numbers as SELCAL

I have just seen that I am unable to enter numbers for SELCAL of an aircraft profile I am trying to create on Simbrief. would it be possible to implement that as otherwise I would have to always enter it manually when prefiling the flight plan on VATSIM

Has VATSIM implemented support for SELCAL 32? Regular SELCAL only supports the following letters:

That I don’t know, it is possible to prefile a flight plan containing numbers, though.

Yes but then they won’t be able to send a SELCAL tone that your client recognizes since there are no frequencies corresponding to the digits you entered.

Also, pre-filing only advises the controller of the code, but you must also enter it when connecting (e.g. in vPilot) else it won’t work. In theory controllers should be able to assign you a new SELCAL code enroute but in practice, whenever I was flying in oceanic airspace and the controller tried, it didn’t work; the usual advice given then is to disconnect and reconnect (entering the SELCAL code in the client as you are doing so).

Either way, I don’t think Simbrief should allow users to save an invalid SELCAL code in an aircraft profile.

I don’t consider it invalid, though, but in that case not supported in that network. If I wasn’t flying on VATSIM but on some other network that supports SELCAL-32 where I could also import ICAO fpl then I could make use of numbers so it could still be implemented without any (from what I would think) any bigger disadvantages

For the reasons Tim listed, this probably won’t be changed on SimBrief.

That being said, if you absolutely must, there is a workaround to enter other characters. Simply enter your SELCAL into the Extra FPL Info (Item 18) option as follows:

Do this at your own risk of course. I have no idea how this will be handled on the VATSIM network (or indeed, any other third-party that imports/uses the SELCAL code from your SimBrief flight plan).

Best regards,
