Today, I’m doing a flight from KSFO-RJAA using 207min ETOPS. Anyways, I am using 3 ETOPS alternates: PANC, UHPP, & RJAA. Critical Point 1 between PANC & UHPP seemed to have plotted correctly, however Critical Point 2 between UHPP & RJAA did not. Just look at the mileage difference I’ve highlighted in the photo below from my OFP.
Just as an FYI, US operators are not using Russian Alternates or Airspace for anything. If a crew is having a bad day under Capt’s Emerg Authority he/she absolutely can land at a Russian airport, but then the airplane is hard broke probably until hell freezes over due to the parts embargo; they are planned to not use those airports for anything.
That’s good to know! Thanks, Doug!
Hello,
After reviewing your OFP, I can confirm that your data appears to be accurate. The distance from CP2—which, in your case, is only a few miles from CP1 due to having three alternates—to UHPP is approximately 831 NM according to your figures. When I recalculated this distance using current weather conditions, I found it to be about 910 NM from CP2.
Additionally, your numbers show the distance from CP2 to UPHH as 810 NM. For the distance from CP2 to your third alternate and your destination, you listed 2,063 NM, while my calculations came to roughly 2,084 NM from CP2. These differences are well within an acceptable margin.
As you know, once we pass CP1, any further distance calculations are made from CP2 to your next alternates westbound, since we are past the point of no return. Hope this is helpful to you, you may find this interesting. Navigraph
Hi, thanks for the report. I see the issue.
It might be a while before we can look into it but I’ve added it to the list.
Best regards,
Just to follow up, this should be fixed now.
Best regards,
